The Pictures of Mars

This is an excerpt from a newspaper article about pictures of Mars taken from the Hubble telescope when the red planet's orbit brought it close to earth back in 2002.

“Images of Mars at its Closest Point to Earth are Revealed to the Public”

“On the 5th , the U.S. National Aerospace Agency (NASA) released images of Mars, taken at its closest approach to earth in thirteen years, since it made an extremely close approach in 1988."

“The images were taken by the U.S. Hubble space telescope on June 26th, when Mars was at its closest point to the earth, at about 68 million kilometers. The red surface of the planet and the frozen clouds which cover it can be clearly seen. Near the polar caps, there are the lines of  large-scale sandstorms. "
