When the International New York Auto Show opened on April 04, 2007, commentators noticed something interesting: American automakers were expanding their lineups in the compact car segment--which is traditionally the strong area of the Asian automakers. Meanwhile, the Asian car companies were just as aggressively going after the large car and luxury segments of the market, where the American automakers have always been strong.
